The Queen has asked for the Astronomer Royal to be brought to her bedside.

It is the first time in four decades I’ve ever known her ask to see the Astronomer Royal. But after yesterday’s meeting with Liz Truss, the monarch has become interested in the possibility of intelligent life on other planets.

I thought about explaining the astrologer/astronomer mix-up, but there was no need, because Michaela soon steered the chat away from the difficulties of reaching Alpha Centauri with today’s technology, and gave the monarch a tarot reading instead.

‘Worn just arsked how worn spent worn’s day yesterday, and look,’ the Queen said excitedly, pointing at a card: The Fool. ‘OK, do another.’

‘You must ask me another question, Ma’am.’

‘How is worn’s week looking?’

Michaela slowly and deliberately turned over the next card. The Reaper. Death.

‘Can worn have another go?’

‘No, sorry. Death. You’re going to die this week.’

I was livid that Michaela could forget royal protocol in this way.

‘Your Majesty,’ I hissed.

‘Oh yes, sorry,’ Michaela apologised. ‘You’re going to die this week, Your Majesty.’
